This grant provides a one-time payment of €8,000 to widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners with dependent children.

For eligibility criteria and more details, visit the Citizens Information website.

– Funeral Grant

If a person dies as a result of a workplace incident, a special Funeral Grant is available under the Occupational Injuries Benefit scheme. The current grant amount is €850.

– Social Welfare Payments Following a Death

When a person receiving social welfare benefits passes away, the payment will typically continue for six weeks after the date of death. This continuation of benefits, which can be considered a form of bereavement assistance, is extended to the surviving partner or carer if they are listed as a dependent or carer.

For more information, visit the Citizens Information website or contact your local social welfare office.

– Additional Needs Payment

In certain circumstances, the Department of Social Protection may provide an Additional Needs Payment to help with essential, once-off costs that you cannot pay from your weekly income. This can include assistance with funeral expenses.
